Itinerary

We start the day visiting the Archaeological Zone of Monte Alban, one of the most emblematic cities of Mesoamerica and a World Heritage Site since 1987. Founded by the Zapotec civilization, Monte Alban will surprise you with its majestic structures and panoramic views over the Valley of Oaxaca. During the tour, a specialized guide will share with you the secrets of this important ceremonial center, explaining the history of the buildings and the archaeological findings that have allowed us to learn more about the Zapotec culture.
After Monte Alban, immerse yourself in the world of alebrijes in San Martin Tilcajete. In a workshop, witness the fascinating process of making these wooden figures full of color and symbolism, from carving to painting. Local artisans will guide you through their tradition, and you will have the opportunity to take home a piece or even paint your own alebrije in an unforgettable experience.
At noon, we will stop at a traditional restaurant in the region to taste some of the most representative dishes of Oaxacan cuisine. Get ready to enjoy delicious antojitos such as tamales, memelas and quesadillas, all prepared with local corn and spices that make Oaxacan gastronomy one of the tastiest in Mexico. Each bite will be a tribute to the culinary tradition of this land.
Our last stop will be in San Bartolo Coyotepec, a town famous for its ancestral technique of creating black clay, a tradition that has endured since pre-Hispanic times. In a local workshop, you will learn about the process of making these unique pieces, from the extraction of the clay to its modeling and firing in traditional kilns. The black clay is not only a sample of artisan skill, but also a reflection of the symbolism and the Zapotec cosmovision. You will be amazed by the variety of figures, tableware and decorative objects that artisans create from this ancient technique.
